PHS Case Study from the 2018 Commonwealth Games One year on from the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast, CGF President Dame Louise Martin has congratulated the Games Partners on this special milestone, which has been marked by the publication of the official Post Games Report, detailing the benefits and legacy impacts of the Games on Queensland communities. Growth in trade and investment is estimated to be worth $840 million largely driven by the opportunities identified through the Trade 2018 program. 20,000 pieces of sports equipment gifted to schools, councils, sporting organisations and communities across Queensland. Festival 2018, the arts and culture program, was the largest arts and culture event ever hosted in Queensland attracting more than 1.1 million attendances. The GC2018 RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) delivered an increase in procurement opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, generating more than $14 million in contracts and revenue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses. The Games are estimated to support more than 21 000 jobs on a yearly full-time equivalent basis (FTEY) over the nine-year period before, during and after the Games. About 1.3 million visitors will be attracted to Queensland as a result of Games, including 448 000 over the four years post-Games. These visitors are predicted to generate $1.1 billion in expenditure over the nine-year period, including more than $450 million in the four years post-Games. Queensland and the Gold Coast continue to attract an increasing number of major national and international events with its reputation as a world-class events destination. Highlighting our Hammer Cage Sizes It seems to be a little known fact that there are two hammer cage sizes approved by IAAF. The 9m cage has a 53 degree danger angle with 3.2m wide gates pivoting 4.2m forward of the circle centre. The gates close to 140mm of the centre axis of the cage. Denis Wilson from Athletics Australia instigated the move for IAAF certification of this size over four years ago. The 2m wide gates on existing 9m cages can be changed to 3.2m which would decrease the danger zone to 53 degrees. This may make a 9m cage compliant to IAAF but would not be certified. Our Thor 9 and Thor 10 Hammer Throw Cages are both IAAF Certified (now World Athletics) and have also been Certified by a Structural Engineer. PHS Thor 9 Open Day at Ashton Athletics Field, UK Play Hard Sports Equipment (PHS), and our UK Partner Sport & Play UK, are hosting the Thor 9 Hammer Throw Cage Open Day held at Ashton Athletics Field, Woodford Green UK Thursday 28th March 2019 The Open Day is to support Sport & Play UK in lead up to the Cage Modernisation Program which is in aid of UK Athletics bringing all UK throws cages up to modern IAAF standard specifications (working in cooperation with The Hammer Circle (Association of British Hammer Throwers) and Home Country Athletics Federations. The reason for the Cage Modernisation Program was that earlier this year there was a near miss incident involving a hammer implement at a league fixture where it was very fortunate not to see a serious injury occur to spectators. As the safety of all athletes and athletics participants is paramount in sports. Immediately following the incident, UK Athletics conducted a thorough review of all UK cages. As a result of the review, UK Athletics has defined a new UK cage specification that will reduce the ‘danger zone’ of all UK cages and will provide increased safety for all facility users. As it has it, the Athletics IAAF certified Thor 9 Hammer Discus cage designed and manufactured by PHS fits exactly that asset requirement. London Stadium acquires IAAF certified Thor 9 hammer discus throw cage
PHS are very excited to announce that the IAAF certified Thor 9 Hammer Cage will be installed at the London Stadium UK via PHS UK agents Sport & Play UK. London Stadium (formerly and known as Olympic Stadium and The Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) is a multi-purpose outdoor stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in the Stratford district of London. It is in the Lower Lea Valley, 6 miles (10 km) east of central London. It was originally constructed for the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics—serving as the track and field venue, and as the site of their opening and closing ceremonies.

2018 All Schools Championship in QLD
2018 All Schools Championship in QLD – run & won! The 2018 All Schools Championships has been run and won in Cairns Queensland, with NSW taking team honours over Queensland and Victoria in third. South Australia won the Small State title. Over 1000 under 18 children took part in the competition, which saw some sensational results in some pretty poor conditions. Along with Aths TV, there is also a plethora of content on the Athletics Australia Facebook page and Instagram page. The competition began on Friday afternoon with some fantastic events, including seeing Elliott Housden win the U18 Boys Hammer Throw and Renee Hardy win the Under 16 Girls Hammer Throw. But soon after those events and some other qualifying events, the rain came and it came hard! With some events having to be delayed, competition still continued on a number of events including the Girls Long Jump U18, taken out by Annie McGuire from Queensland. The Friday night finished in torrential rain with the 5000m Girls and Boys U18 Walks, taken out by Caitlin Hannigan and Gwyllym Young respectively. Ok conditions greeted participants on Saturday morning with Youth Olympic Games stars – Rochelle Vidler taking out the Girls Under 18 Hammer Throw and Elizabeth Moss winning the Girls Under 18 High Jump. The rain held off all day on Saturday, which allowed for some brilliant results – including seeing both Sasha Zhoya win the 110m under 18 Boys Hurdles and Sophie White win the 100m Under 18 Girls Hurdles.
